An outdoor portrait session that we had as much fun staging and shooting as the cool couple had fun doing all the crazy things we suggested them to do

I’ve been soo looking forward to this E-Session as it’s the first one I’ve ever done in my entire photography career. And who better to be my willing model.. it’s no other than one of trusted team mates in Johan Sopiee Studio, Mr Chin Lai and the sweet Ai Ling! I’ve known Chin Lai for many many years as he’s one of Sam Sopiee, my brother’s, best friends. I first met Ai Ling at Havana Estudio where Sam is one of the owners and Chin Lai is one of the Salsaleros. hehe.

We met up with the lovely couple in Sri Hartamas after Ai Ling’s trial make up session and this just happened to be outside a local bank. So when the guard disappeared to the pantry or something like that, we hastily made a dash to the huge glass window and did a click-click-click-and-run. hehe.
As we were ducking out of sight and crossing the road back to our cars, one of us noticed this cool red mini passing by “hey look! so cool”. Then Chin Lai said, “wait a minute, that’s my friend”. Apa lagi..

A few clicks and 5 speedlights later, we came up with this..

Of course, the were more intimate ones, but I leave the revealing of that to Chin Lai
As we were fast losing light, we made our way to Chin Lai’s abode and as we we’re leaving his place, heading for the local coffee joint, Dee spotted this lovely light. Chin Lai, Ai Ling, Dee and I will remember this as one of the funniest moments of the day when a TMC plastic bag joined our E-Session. hehe

We ended the day with a spectacular backdrop of shadowy leaves (spotted by Chin Lai himself). If you’re near the Garden International School, KL, you may actually stop and look and if you’re lucky, you’ll notice this spot. Thanks to Dee holding the light in the perfect position, Ai Ling for her patience, Chin Lai for the concept and artistic choice of location and my dodging-traffic-coz-I-was standing-in-the-middle-of-the-road-technique, we came up with this

once in a while i’d like to show my clients a sample of my work that comes directly out of my camera. aside from including my watermark “JohanSopieeStudio” into the image below, no post processing work or editing has been done on the photo. the technique we use to make the subject stand out from the background is called light subtraction. hope you like the photo as much as i enjoyed photographing it

and yes, you can see the groom winking at us as the bride enjoys leaning on her man. hehe
